SO MANY DETAILS…
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Rigorous movement training and delicate energy practices from butoh dance and noguchi taiso’s water body are drawn together with sorvillo’s associative image-sourcing, improvisation and compositional practices to lay the groundwork for our embodied, visual and intellectual research on the nature of time (quantum physics/capitalism/lingering...) Butoh, for me, is an erasure, and, an expansion. The body (absenced a quotidian “self”) is an open location, an intersection where the world passes through you (no longer you). This work is a practice towards vibrant attention, absolute presence, and a transformation of the material of the body. In my practice I have shifted away from the external aesthetics of butoh to focus here.
PERFORMANCE LAB: Building on practices and materials from the one-day workshop and six-week training, performance lab participants will create short works presented on June 3 & 4. While our research centers on embodied practice, presentations created individually or in small groups may take the form of text, visual image, sonic material, video, sculpture etc. Lab meets Sundays 4-6pm with additional research/rehearsal/creation time as decided by the working groups.
PARTICIPATION: Welcome adult movement practitioners from any style/background as well as artists, musicians, writers and other humans who want to engage embodied practices. Please note that the studio is up a flight of stairs on the second floor. Participation in Six-Week Training is required to join Performance Lab.
